Good day my HardCorps managers. Yes, I've dawdled. Yes, I've paid more attention to the Grand Prix league but quit being the needy girlfriend, I'm back. And X gon give it to you...like I did back in the day. Let's have a weekly recap!!!
You know how I like to do this. Well, most of you do. We start with the top scorer's game to give props to the Fantasy Big Dawg for the week (and the weekly high score winner).
OP McFury v Captain Checkdown
OP McFury barely nudged the defending champion Motown Marauders by 2 points to snag this weeks high score prize. In his matchup with Captain Checkdown, Steve sneakily lured his opponent into a false sense of security. Jason had players on both Thursday and Friday and popped out to a 34.2 point lead. Steve lay in wait (probably chewing on 15 lbs of raw steak) with his 0. Then McFury unleashed the fury with almost 100 points in the 1300 Sunday games, rocketing past Checkdown who only added another 41 to his previous total. Steve never looked back. He added a few points to his lead with the mid games, and by the time Sunday was over, this match was decided. Both managers had plenty of players surpassing expectations, but McFury just surpassed harder.
Put Your Dak Into It v Heavy Betty
I guess Alabama could make it in the NFL since Dave basically built a team of all Alabama players (worst homer I have ever seen in fantasy), fully half of his player roster was Alabama alum. If he could have drafted the Alabama defense, he would have. Fortunately for Dave, his college team was playing Travis' middle school JV team which put up a truly disgusting fantasy score falling just shy of 60 points (I think the only score I've ever seen lower was in the 40s...and it was mine). Sometimes thems the breaks though. Let's be honest, Travis got boned by a number of lackluster performances across the board. Jared Goff was miserable, Puka (more like Puke-Uh am I right?) Nacua showed none of the talent he showcased in one of the best rookie WR campaigns of all time. Brandon Aiyuk and Keenan Allen laid eggs, not even notching half of their expected points. Kyren Williams was his best performer and still missed his projected total of 12.90. Meanwhile, Heavy Betty really doesn't have much to be proud of either. Jackson did Jackson things as we all knew he would, and Brian Robinson had a really good game in Washington during their loss to Baker Mayfield. But Diontae Johnson came in at 1/4 of what was expected of him as Carolina's woes look ready to continue into the near future (you should have drafted Bryce Young too Dave). Any way you cut it, this was a horrid matchup, and you've done a disservice to fantasy managers everywhere.
Motown Marauders v Maximum Effort
I'll end the head to head section with the biggest blowout. The reigning champ just missed high score, but he still notched a W. And he did it in style posting the largest margin of victory for the week. Geoff changed his team name to Maximum Effort. It seems as if the rename was a typo, but "a" and "x" are nowhere near "i" and "n" on the keyboard! In another, you never had a chance matchup, Larry jumped to an early lead after the Thursday and Friday games and held steady in the 1300 games. Geoff did make up a LITTLE ground in the late Sunday games and added a small punch in Monday night football...well more like a flick or a hard sneeze. It just wasn't enough to get him over the hump. Hell who are we kidding, he didn't even start up the hill, he was busy giving mINimum effort. The lone bright spot for Geoff is that Mike Evans is still a monster of a man, and continues to take all the DB lunchmoney. On the other side of the ball, Larry had rostered both players scoring each of this NFL season's first 2 touchdowns. One with the electric rookie Xavier Worthy on KC, and the other after trading with Travis to get D. Henry. That one TD was Henry's best highlight. The largest contributor in this blowout win was Jayden Reed (whom I had benched in both Grand Prix divisions). Unfortunately, Reed will no longer be recieving passes from Jordan Love this season as he is suspected to have an ACL tear suffered on the 2nd to last play of the game. I hate to see promising young players get hurt, but I can't say I'm bothered by Jayden Reed's scoring potential take a hit since Motown is stacked.
OK. So the first week is comprised of intra-division games and we are all jockeying for position in our respective divisions before heading into the 8 week inter-division stretch. Doing a PF (points for) and PA (points against) analysis of each division would be kind of silly. However, we can take a look at which divisions had the strongest showing.
ODIN: With Travis' turd of a game, and Bennet being the only manager to break 100 (boom boom), this division is clearly off to the worst start with nearly 70 points less than the other divisions. Total-366.76
THOR: Looks like this weeks high score was enough to put this division in the lead. Having 3 managers break 100 didn't hurt. Total-433.4
FREYA: This division was oh so close (.26 points away), but that minimum effort from Maximum Effort really crushed their chances at being the point total leaders despite having TWO 120+ point performers. Total-433.14
Glad I found out this was happening week 2 lol great post
